Roof Lantern Cellular Blinds: A Simple Solution for Summer Heat and Winter Chill

Roof Lantern Cellular Blinds: A Simple Solution for Summer Heat and Winter Chill

Discover why our roof lantern cellular blinds are the perfect year-round solution for heat, glare, and energy loss all with no wires, no power supply, and no fuss.

When we visit homes and get asked about covering a roof lantern or skylight, it’s often because they’re struggling with heat or glare. Sometimes both.

You sit down with a cup of tea in the middle of the day, and the sun’s beaming through your ceiling. It's dazzling, it's hot and in the evenings, it’s the opposite: cold and draughty.

I visited a home in Glenfield recently that had a beautiful dining / kitchen extension, the problem was a south facing roof lantern. You couldn’t touch the kitchen island it was that hot.

We see this all the time. And that’s why roof lantern blinds are one of the most effective solutions we offer especially when made with light-filtering cellular fabric and fitted within a neat, discreet frame.

But we also get a lot of questions. So here’s what you need to know…

Do they need blackout fabric?

Not at all.
In fact, we often recommend light-filtering fabric instead. It softens the glare, reduces the solar heat pouring into your room during the day, and helps retain warmth during colder months. It’s the same fabric we use in our energy-saving blinds and is perfect for year-round comfort without darkening your space.

Are they electric? Do I need a power supply?

No power supply needed.
These roof lantern blinds are solar powered. That means no electrician, no wiring, and no disruption to your décor. A small solar panel powers the blind’s motor, which is controlled by a remote. Simple, clever, and completely self-contained. The blinds also have a plug in point to allow them to be charged in the case of an emergency. Just plug it in the way you do your mobile phone and remove the charger when complete (I’ve never know anyone use them yet)

Will I see any guide wires?

No guide wires and nothing dangling.
The blind runs within a discreet 25mm x 25mm frame. That frame keeps everything hidden and means there is no need for any support wires so no cords, no wires, no mess. Once installed, it blends in beautifully with the roof lantern surround. The look is clean and minimal, just like it should be.

Does it run in a frame?

Yes and the frame is key.
It does more than keep the blind in place. It hides the moving parts, helps reduce light gaps, and improves heat control by creating a more sealed system. Most customers don’t even notice the frame once it’s in as it is fitted at the top of the reveal so almost looks part of the window frame, but they definitely notice the difference it makes.

Why customers choose them (and tell their friends)

The feedback we get is usually the same:
"I wish I’d done it sooner."

Roof lanterns bring in beautiful light but when it becomes too much, the joy of that space can quickly fade. Cellular blinds give you the control back.
No boiling heatwaves in summer. No chilly evenings in winter. Just a space that feels comfortable, whatever the weather’s doing outside.
