Can you change the awning fabric on your patio awning?
The good news is yes you can.
I was at the home of a lovely lady this morning who said she found it impossible to find any information online about changing the awning fabric.

I would always recommend getting a professional company in to change the fabric on your awning for a number of reasons for a number of reasons.
Firstly the awning arms are spring loaded so when you take the old cover off you need to be very careful and ensure the arms are secured properly.
Even the professionals can get this wrong. My dad told of an employee of ours a few years ago who broke his nose because he hadn’t secured the arms well enough. (we have special ties to ensure this doesn’t happen now)
Secondly if your awning is motorised resetting the start and stop positions of the motor can be a little tricky especially with some of the older motors.
Thirdly the number of people required to fit the replacement cover. We fitted a new cover yesterday to a 5 metre wide awning and it took 6 people.

Your local awning company will visit your home to carry out a full survey on your awning.
They will check that there are no issues with the operation and framework with your awning.
If everything checks out they will measure for your new cover and valance and show you the current range of fabric available.
They will then give you a price based on the width and projection of your awning and your fabric choice.
If you place your order they may ask for a deposit (usually around 50%) and the new cover will be ordered.
Your new cover will take between 3 and 7 weeks depending on the time of year (longer in the summer). We would leave your awning at your home during this time so you can still use it.
When your cover arrives we would give you a call and this is where companies do things a little differently.
Some companies will bring the cover to your home and swap the covers in your back garden.
We do things slightly differently. When your cover arrives we will collect the awning from your home and take it to our factory.
Your old cover will be removed and the awning frame will be cleaned with a jet wash. This ensures we are not fitting a new cover on a dirty frame.
We will also spend some time checking your awning over and lubricating where needed.
The new cover will get fitted to the freshly cleaned frame and then the awning will be returned to your home.
Your awning will be away from your home for about a week.

We can recover wider and bigger projecting awnings but those prices above should cover 90% of the recovers we do.
Something that maybe worth considering, if your awning is over 15 years old and motorised it maybe worth fitting a new motor at the same as you get your awning recovered. We charge £499 inc vat if it done at the same time as the recover and £995 inc vat if the motor fails later. Ask your local awning supplier about this option when quoting for your recover.
