If done correctly, patio doors can make for a beautiful addition to your home, especially for those who have a taste for a more open and spacious atmosphere in their home. What blinds are best for your patio doors? We’ve spent 130 years learning what is and what isn’t right for certain windows or doors.
Our recommendations are always based on 2 things.
- Reliability. Will it last? We will never recommend blinds that we know are not suitable and will not last.
- Easy to use. If the blinds are not easy to use, again we would not consider them suitable.
Here are our recommendations based on our years of experience.
Vertical Blinds
These are the perfect solution for Patio Doors and large windows as they are very reliable as well as easy to use and install. Tilt the louvres to adjust the light entering the room and simply move the fabric across the rail for a seamless transition to the opening door. They are also extremely practical, bringing benefits such as controlling the temperature and maintaining maximum privacy.
They also make for the best blinds to use for your kitchen, this is because they are extremely easy to clean and come in a range of superb fabrics that are wipeable and waterproof.
Duette Blinds.
Also know as honeycomb blinds. Available up to 2400mm wide so you could one blind to cover your patio doors, or you could split it in 2 and have 1 blind covering the opening door and one covering the fixed panel. I would recommend the side chain operation as this is the most reliable for blinds of this size.
Roller Blinds
Another good option for your patio doors. I would recommend having 2 blinds to cover your doors as they will be easier to operate and more practical. Side Chain operation is a good choice, alslo with the price of remote control as low as £99 per blind this could look great with no cords or chains.
Wooden Venetian Blinds. Avoid, Avoid, Avoid. We turn down around 30 jobs a year because people want Wooden Venetian Blinds fitted for their patio doors. There a 2 main reasons for refusing the orders.
- Weight. Wooden Venetians are very heavy and would be very difficult to operate which will affect their long term reliability.
- The stack height. A 50mm wooden venetian blind with a 2000mm drop (approx patio door size) will have a stack height of 350mm meaning unless you are very short you will need to duck under the blind everytime you come in and out of the door.
Thinking of curtains and blinds ? Our Allusion Blind are a perfect choice for patio doors and combine the luxury of a curtain with the practicality of a vertical blind.
I hope this information is of some use in making the decision of which blinds are best for your patio doors.
